Ronald Gjorka made the most of his pitch invasion during Real Madrid’s preseason match against Chelsea in Miami by sharing a very long hug with Cristiano Ronaldo. He was eventually arrested and charged with trespassing and disorderly conduct, which the 20-year-old’s attorney told WPLG Local 10 in Miami could cause “problems with immigrations and his college if the charges aren’t dropped” (Gjorka is originally from Albania). So Ronaldo has gone above and beyond what footballers usually do for people who interrupt matches (nothing) by writing a letter to the prosecutor’s office in an attempt to prevent Gjorka from facing the consequences of his pitch invasion.
From Local 10:
“I understand your position and the importance of enforcing rules and law,” Ronaldo wrote in a letter to the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office. “However, I respectfully request that you and your office reconsider this decision and dismiss the two criminal charges this young man faces.”
Gjorka must have made an impression on Ronaldo during their embrace because it’s hard to imagine many other professional athletes would go to such lengths to defend someone in this situation. Now Gjorka can only hope that the Miami-Dade State Attorney isn’t a Barcelona fan.
