There will be a protest on MDA new licensing scheme [Link Here] that will regulate 10 top online local news site including US based Yahoo News (Singapore).
Under the licensing framework, online news sites will be individually licensed if they report an average of at least one article per week on Singapore’s news and current affairs over a period of two months, and are visited by at least 50,000 unique IP addresses from Singapore each month over a period of two months.
When the licensing framework is launched, MDA said it will be issuing licensing notifications for the following ten sites: asiaone.com, businesstimes.com.sg, channelnewsasia.com, omy.sg, sg.news.yahoo.com, stomp.com.sg, straitstimes.com, tnp.sg, todayonline.com and zaobao.com.
Although it was clarified [Link Here] that blogs should not be affected, my personal point of view, if we let such things happen, it is only a matter of time when they decide to step it up affecting a wider users / contributors.
We claimed to be a democratic society / country and what MDA just did is an exact opposite of that by clamping down and trying to regulate internet to traditional media with the new licensing framework. Already the traditional media is a pro-government where i call it a place of modern propaganda is born. In the name of democracy, freedom of internet and the rights of it’s people, users and contributors, i call urge you as the readers to spread this post and be present at Hong Lim Park on Saturday 8th June at 4pm.
What this blogger just suggest [Link Here] is logical but would it be enough?
