Seems like NUS been hitting a home run again on the news, probably all for the wrong reason? Or is our government charade of meritocracy of choosing Singapore scholar candidates needs to be revised.

Well, after the Newpaper published their story, they decided “oops, i dont want the world to see – too much attention” and at 11am today they actually locked down their blog on Tumblr which is at this point of writing, when you visit the site, it will actually ask for password. Alvin is an ex NUS scholar while Vivian is still going through her University studies.

Benjamin Cheah (Alvin’s ex secondary school mate) defended his friend and highlighted how bogus was The New Paper, having some facts about Alvin and Vivian wrong. He also did mention that Alvin and Vivian were just friends (with benefit) and that Vivian is NOT his girl friend. Another interesting fact was, Alvin is not an “Ex NUS student” and Benjamin mentioned that he was just taking leave of absence to run his own business. Benjamin also claimed that the author at The New Paper was not responsible and questioning the ethics as he represents The New Paper and in whole Singapore news media.
Quite an interesting twist of story here. Probably true as now Alvin & Vivian blog is being set to private / invite only. But seriously, you jolly well knew that this is the internet, posting something like that is just creating the attention. Well Alvin, you might sound smart, creatively daring but seriously lack of common sense, sadly.

Alvin if you are not a NUS Scholar there will not be so much attention but because you are Scholar I think you made a terrible mistake. This is Asia and not Europe or America. what crime have they committed that has not been done again and again but privately and unseen … are we that pious that we can judge them for what they have done? They have chosen to expose themselves and their private lives so let's leave their parents, their places of education and places of work out of this. Should the parents of a drug king be hanged together with their drug king son or daughter? Or family members of a rapist be canned cos 1 of their family members decides to rape somebody? Maybe their boss, teachers, headmaster be hanged or caned too cos they did not do a good job of teaching the person correctly. I do not agree with what had been done but that is done … let us look at our children and learn how to stop them into behaving like what they had done especially our daughters. IF anyone of us here is still married and having an affair -- please … u know what to do lest your children follow your footstep and decide to take 1 step ahead like what they are doing now … thanks for reading.

I see your point. But there is a stark difference between when is done all this time and what is happening. I believe for one, people don't go around telling other people, especially using the media, to go for explicit, unprotected sex, and encouraging cheating. Where is the responsibility as a member of society? What people do is their business, I agree, but when it is broadcast out depicting the wrong things that people might follow, it should be made known that Malaysia will not accept this behaviour.
How can one say "Who needs degrees when you got swag", when "swag" in this case means using a bad way to gain fame. I think at the very least, a public apology to show remorse is needed. He owes it to Malaysia…
